CLIPPERS' LOSS A BIG LETDOWN BULLS COOL OFF L.A. WITH UPSET AT STAPLES CENTER CHICAGO 97, CLIPPERS 91.

Byline: Joe Stevens Staff Writer

The Clippers endured just one loss on Sunday night Sunday Night, later named Michelob Presents Night Music, was an NBC late-night television show which aired for two seasons between 1988 and 1990 as a showcase for jazz and eclectic musical artists. , a 97-91 defeat to the Chicago Bulls The Chicago Bulls are a professional basketball team based in Chicago, Illinois. They play in the National Basketball Association. The team was founded in 1966, and has won six NBA Championships since. .

But they had multiple ways in which they interpreted the loss.

On one side, coach Mike Dunleavy Mike Dunleavy is the name of two notable persons in basketball, father and son:
  • Mike Dunleavy, Sr. is a former NBA player and is the current coach of the Los Angeles Clippers.
  • Mike Dunleavy, Jr.
, Sam Cassell Samuel (Sam) James Cassell (born November 18, 1969 in Baltimore, Maryland) is an American professional basketball player who currently plays point guard for the NBA's Los Angeles Clippers.  and Elton Brand Elton Tyron Brand (born March 11, 1979 in Peekskill, New York) is an American All-Star professional basketball player for the National Basketball Association's Los Angeles Clippers and the USA National Team.  did not sound overly concerned that the sub-.500 Bulls pranced into Staples Center This articlearticle or section has multiple issues:

, went up by as many as 12 points and led the entire second half.

On the other side, however, Cuttino Mobley let out a flurry of frustration, upset over what he sees as the Clippers taking lesser opponents for granted.

``We should pick it up more as a team,'' Mobley said. ``We take people for granted. We're having a lot of comebacks, and good teams do that. And we're a good team. But coach told us they were going to jump on our butt. And that's what they did, and at some point and time, we took them for granted.''

If that occurred, it could be traced to the final 1:18 of the second quarter when Chicago went on a back-breaking 10-0 run to go up 51-50 at halftime. From then on, the Bulls led the rest of the way, even though the Clippers had been up by 10 points in the second quarter.

``I just think we as a team, including myself, have to be more of a student,'' Mobley said. ``I blame myself. I blame the vets for not instilling that because we're squeaking past people. They played hard, and we didn't match their intensity. And teams are going to play like that when the playoffs come.''

In crunch time, Kirk Hinrich shredded the Clippers' defense for three consecutive layups to put the Bulls up 93-85 with 2:59 left. The game was effectively out of reach, but the Clippers did pull to 93-91 with 26.9 seconds left, after a layup by Brand.

Hinrich iced the victory with two free throws with 9.4 seconds left to put the Bulls on top 95-91.

Despite Mobley's frustration, it is not as if the Clippers are spiraling out of control. Even with the loss, they have won 10 of 13 games and stand at 30-19, which is still the most games above .500 of any team in Clipper history.

``There's no hard feelings, no down feelings,'' Cassell said. ``We know why we lost. We had too many defensive lapses. So we're going to regroup re·group

.''

Coming off a career-high 44 points, Brand had 29 points and 15 rebounds.

``I don't think we took them lightly,'' Brand said. ``Coach really studied their last few games, and their win-loss differential was only one point. So he let us know that they're right there to be a good team. They out-muscled and out-fought us.''
