Perhaps this is the proof Clippers owner Donald T. Sterling needs to move his team behind the Orange Curtain.

Could it merely be coincidence that the Clippers upset San Antonio 95-90 on Tuesday night before 14,555 at Anaheim Arena? Consider that they have gone 2-13 in their past 15 games, with both victories in Anaheim.

It's probably as much of a coincidence as the fact Sterling sat with Richard Ablon, president and CEO of Ogden Entertainment, the company that runs Anaheim Arena, during the first half.

The NBA deadline is March 1 for the Clippers to decide they are moving to Anaheim next season, although the league would probably extend the date if the Clippers were seriously considering leaving the Sports Arena.

A source close to the situation said it would still be surprising if the Clippers moved to Orange County next season.

Clippers coach Bill Fitch deferred offering an opinion on moving to Anaheim, but Fitch said he is not aware if the club has made a decision.

"I'm a public figure and they're still debating the pros and cons both ways," Fitch said. "I don't think it's my place to give an opinion unless the owner asks and he hasn't asked."

It's likely the players wouldn't mind, especially after defeating the Portland Trail Blazers and Spurs in their past two Anaheim contests before crowds bigger than any at the Sports Arena except when the Lakers show up.

"You can make an argument that the crowd helped us," forward Loy Vaught said. "The crowd was a good sixth man for us."

But as usual, a contrarian view was offered by center Brian Williams.

"The crowd doesn't win basketball games," Williams said.

But he did, hitting six straight free throws in the final 25.2 seconds to seal the victory for the Clippers (18-37). Williams finished with a game-high 22 points and experienced his first win since Jan. 9. He was injured and missed Clippers victories over Denver (Jan. 25) and Portland (Feb. 17).

"I was starting to forget what it felt like," Williams said.

David Robinson had 28 points but only five rebounds for the Spurs (36-18), who entered the game 3-0 against the Clippers.

Spurs coach Bob Hill was ejected with 6:35 remaining after picking up his second technical foul of the game.

"I was protesting the fact that we weren't even playing to win," Hill said. "I didn't have anything against the officiating. I just didn't want to watch us play anymore."

Notes: Clippers guard Pooh Richardson said his agent, Arn Tellem, will contact other clients to decide as a group whether to leave the NBA players union. Among Tellem's clients are Brent Barry, Don MacLean, Antonio McDyess and Latrell Sprewell. Richardson is upset that no former players are being considered for the executive director's position.
