CLINTON IN L.A. TO BOOST PARTY COFFERS, RELAX IN MALIBU.

President Clinton arrived Saturday in Southern California Southern California, also colloquially known as SoCal, is the southern portion of the U.S. state of California. Centered on the cities of Los Angeles and San Diego, Southern California is home to nearly 24 million people and is the nation's second most populated region,  as part of a four-day fund-raising swing to raise nearly $2 million for the Democratic Party and its candidates.

 on Saturday, state Department of Transportation crews placed concrete barricades in front of Katzenberg's home, an imposing gray edifice in the same neighborhood where David Geffen, Janet Jackson, Bruce Willis and Demi Moore live.

Earlier Saturday, Clinton was in Sacramento, where he issued warnings about the showdown with Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein.

Clinton plans to leave Los Angeles on Monday morning for stops in Wichita, Kan., and St. Louis before heading back to Washington, D.C., on Monday night. His trip began Friday in Las Vegas at a reception for members of the DNC's Women's Leadership Forum.

At a time when the Middle East is a pressing concern, with more troubles with Iraq, Clinton's visit to Los Angeles coincidentally overlaps with that of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Netanyahu is scheduled to appear Monday in Beverly Hills at a Los Angeles World Affairs Council World Affairs Council may refer to:

 luncheon, followed by a meeting with local Jewish leaders and a dinner honoring Kirk Douglas, who is receiving the annual King David Award.

There was no mention in either leaders' schedule that they would meet.

Referring to the showdown with Iraq as a crisis, Clinton in Sacramento painted a picture of a future in which people like Saddam - left unchecked - could use poison gas poison gas, any of various gases sometimes used in warfare or riot control because of their poisonous or corrosive nature. On a day of travel, when he was consulting with British Prime Minister Tony Blair and other world leaders, Clinton also expressed optimism for a diplomatic resolution.

 is trying to pay down its debt while building its coffers for the 1998 congressional elections.

The committee said Friday its debt stands at $14.2 million, down $1 million from a week ago.
