CLINTON ECONOMIC CONFERENCE ON NEW CD-ROM; JOURNAL GRAPHICS AND UNIDISC, IN COOPERATION WITH CNN, ANNOUNCE A NEW SERIES OF MULTIMEDIA CDs

DENVER, Jan. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Journal Graphics, the leader in the television transcription and information field, today announced a new series of CD-ROM products which will incorporate sound, pictures and television news, making them all accessible to personal computer users. This series will be produced in cooperation with CNN, the world leader in television news, and CD-ROM publisher UniDisc of Soquel, Calif.
The first in this new series of products will be The Clinton Economic Conference: History in Little Rock from CNN. Included in this CD-ROM will be the complete two day conference proceedings from the eventful December meeting conducted by President Clinton, which featured over three hundred of the country's best and brightest economists, business leaders, and educational experts.
The disc will contain the presentations of industrialists such as John Sculley of Apple Computer, Paul Allaire of Xerox corporation and Robert Allen, chairman of AT&T, and the position papers of academic experts on the economy such as Harvard University's John White and Princeton's Alan Blinder. Users will not only be able to read, but to hear and see the statements of educators and advocates for children such as Johnetta Cole, president of Spelman College and Marian Wright Edelman of the Children's Defense Fund. The high-tech "menu" for the disc will afford the user the chance to review the entire conference, or to select portions by conference day, agenda item, or individual speaker.
In addition, the events and newsmaking CNN interviews leading up to the conference and CNN's post-conference analysis and background reporting will be included, giving users the full scope of this chapter of presidential history in the making.
"We see a market that is ready," says Jim Hoffman, CEO of Journal Graphics, "and we think we have the ideal product to take advantage of it. It is a combination of information, education and entertainment presented in a fantastic new medium. Users can watch the speeches, documentary-style, and can also have hundreds of pages of information at their fingertips."
Chris Andrews is president of UniDisc, the publishers of the bestselling 1992 Grammy awards on CD-ROM and the Guinness Disc of Records. Andrews says that Journal Graphics is "custom-designed to take advantage of CD-ROM. They have thousands of transcripts covering news in a way that is impossible to get elsewhere. With the addition of sound and pictures from CNN, a need will be filled for exciting products that are rich in content." Founded in 1989, UniDisc also serves the CD-ROM industry with its publication of the CD-ROM Directory on Disc, the primary information source on this new, fast-growing medium.
UniDisc has contracted with Saville Associates to produce SAIT (Software for Audio, Image and Transcripts), a software specifically designed to present transcripts in a multimedia environment. The Clinton Economic Conference: History in Little Rock will run on DOS or Windows platforms and will be available March 31, 1993. Additional titles in the series -- The Path to the Presidency: The Complete Election '92 Coverage from CNN and CNN: The Year in Review, 1993 Edition -- will be available later in 1993.
