CLINTON AIDE SLAMS 'CRANKPOT' TRIMBLE.

HILLARY Clinton's top adviser branded former Ulster Unionist leader David Trimble a "crankpot" yesterday.

He called her a "cheerleader" rather than a principle player.

In an interview with American station MSNBC MSNBC Microsoft/National Broadcasting Company  Rubin said: "She didn't say she was responsible for negotiating the accords. She said she helped.

"Mo Mowlam, the then Northern Ireland Secretary, said at the time that Hillary is one of the essential reasons we had relative peace.

"David Trimble is pretty much alone, he is the only one.

"He is a Protestant, they traditionally go with the conservatives.

"I know these people. I've been living over there. David Trimble is a crankpot and what he said about her was demeaning."

He suggested Trimble's comments were misinformed.

Rubin added: "I would think you would recognise when somebody is trying to demean the activities of a woman."
