CLIMBING: World finals mark a high.


SCOTLAND is set to host its most prestigious ever climbing event.

The National Rock Climbing rock climbing Sports medicine An 'extreme sport' in which the participant climbs rock formations, with or without ropes Injury risk Fractures, abrasions, death. See Extreme sports.  Centre for Scotland based at the Adventure Centre at Ratho in Edinburgh will be the venue for the Seriously Strong UIAA UIAA University of Illinois Alumni Association
UIAA Union Internationale des Association d’Alpinisme (sets safety standards for rock climbing & mountaineering equipment) 
 World Cup Finals from December 4-7.

It is set to attract more than 200 competitors from upwards of 20 countries as well as thousands of spectators.

They include Scotland's Malcolm Smith Malcolm Smith may refer to:
  • Malcolm Smith (artist) (1912–1966), American retro-futurist artist
  • Malcolm Smith (footballer born 1953) (born 1953), English former footballer
  • Malcolm Smith (footballer born 1970) (born 1970), English former footballer
, who has recovered from injury, and and other UK hopefuls Andy Earl and Mark Croxall.

The event is sponsored as part of a three-year deal by Seriously Strong cheddar with backing from Event Scotland and sportscotland.

BBC Scotland will film the competition to be televised later in the month.

The centre's Duncan McCallum said: ``To have succeeded in attracting a competition of such stature at this early stage is tremendous .''
