It is up against 27 other places of beauty around the world having seen off the challenge of 49 other contenders in the latest round of voting. Of the 77 eligible entries, which were identified from the original 440, have been whittled down by a panel of experts. The third and final phase of voting is now underway with people again able to vote for the cliffs. The winners will be chosen by an estimated 1 billion votes. Polls will continue throughout next year to 2011 when the official declaration of the seven wonders of nature will be revealed. Director of the Cliffs of Moher Visitor Experience Katherine Webster said: "We believe this magnificent and unique place truly deserves natural wonder status and are overjoyed it has been recognised as one of the 28 most spectacular feats of nature on earth.
