CLI announces University of Texas Telemedicine Application; University of Texas Health Science Center Advances Quality of Healthcare with CLI State-of-the-Art Videoconferencing Systems.

(CLI) (NASDAQ/NMS:CLIX) today announced that The University of Texas Health Science Center, located in San Antonio, is utilizing a 10-city network of CLI's state-of-the-art Radiance and eclipse videoconferencing systems to change the way healthcare is implemented in South Texas.

The UT Health Science Center is leveraging CLI's systems to improve medical services, provide advanced healthcare solutions, including distance education and training, doctor to doctor consultation, and remote patient diagnosis. One creative application that is being explored enables a pediatrician, working from his home town, to diagnose and work with children across the state who are deaf or suffer from attention deficit disorder.

This new system is paving the way for the state to attract more residents, medical students and other health profession students to the southern Texas region by allowing greater access to high quality continuing education through videoconferencing. Many community practitioners, looking for methods of leveraging technology for training, are also interested in utilizing the CLI videoconferencing systems. By advancing the quality and accessibility of continuing medical training and education, as well as enabling remote consultations with recognized specialists, The UT Health Science Center hopes to encourage its graduates to build long-standing relationships, and eventually professional practices, within the South Texas region.

The University of Texas Health Science Center and CLI are collaborating to deliver the highest quality of healthcare by using some of the most advanced technology available today. CLI currently holds market leadership in telemedicine applications, and has partnered with a number of strategic customers to optimize systems for the telemedicine market.

The telemedicine system put in place in southern Texas was realized through funding from the Texas State Legislature, which provided $700,000 to purchase and install the first portion of the system. Since that time the system has been upgraded to a network of two CLI Radiance large-group videoconferencing systems, which provide the full functionality and television-quality picture necessary for remote diagnosis. In addition, nine CLI eclipse small-group videoconferencing systems enable many of the remote sites to tap into the University of Texas' network.

The systems are connected via a T1 high-speed line between San Antonio and Harlingen, Texas. The Radiance systems are installed at the University Hospital Trauma Center in San Antonio, with nine remote eclipse units connected from these hubs in Brownsville, Harlingen, Pharr, Laredo, Eagle Pass, Del Rio, Uvalde, Corpus Christi and San Antonio. Transmission rates run at speeds of 384 kilobits per second (Kbps) Radiance to Radiance, 112 Kbps between eclipse systems, and 112 Kbps Radiance to eclipse.

CLI's Radiance videoconferencing system provides the industry's highest quality video at transmission speeds up to 2.048 megabits per second (Mbps). High video quality is achieved at 30 frames per second and 480 lines of resolution.
