SANTA CLARITA Santa Clarita, city (1990 pop. 110,642), Los Angeles co., S Calif., suburb 30 mi (48 km) NW of downtown Los Angeles, on the Santa Clara River; inc. 1987. Situated in the Santa Clara valley and nearby canyons, Santa Clarita includes the former towns of Canyon Country,  - U.S. Rep. Howard P. ``Buck'' McKeon coasted to victory in Tuesday's primary election and will face only token opposition in November's general election.

McKeon, who is seeking his sixth term, garnered more than 84 percent of the Republican vote. His only opponent, James O. ``Jim'' Aldrich, a part-time instructor at California State University, Northridge CSUN offers a variety of programs leading to bachelor's degrees in 61 fields and master's degrees in 42 fields. The university has over 150,000 alumni. It's also home to a summer musical theater/theater program known as TADW (TeenAge Drama Workshop) that leads teenagers through an , earned about 15 percent of the vote.

McKeon will face Democrat Robert Conaway and Libertarian Frank M. Consolo in the general election. The congressman is expected to win re- election in the 25th District, where Republicans heavily outnumber Democrats.
