CLEANUP EVENTS COMING ENVIRONMENTAL WORK IS PLANNED.

LANCASTER - Environmental Pride Week will begin with the city's Lookin' Good Lancaster community cleanup event on April 12.

More than 1,000 residents are expected to help clean up trash from the desert around the city, paint and plant trees and shrubs around the city, followed by a community barbecue for the volunteers.

The Lookin' Good Lancaster cleanup has attracted more than 1,000 residents for three years, Mayor Frank Roberts Frank Roberts may refer to:

``We know this means that our public really cares about this issue and we are very pleased to make Lookin' Good Lancaster part of this regional effort,'' Roberts said.

Ten desert sites have been targeted for cleanup, City Manager Jim Gilley said.

``People have discarded a lot of trash at these sites and it will take many pairs of volunteer hands to clean them up,'' Gilley said.

Volunteers begin the day at 8 a.m. at Lancaster Municipal Stadium, where they will be assigned a site to work until noon. The appreciation barbecue starts at noon.

Clubs, churches, neighborhood groups and families can participate. To volunteer, call (661) 723-6129.

From April 5 to 12, Pearsons Auto Wrecking will pick up abandoned cars and dispose of them at no charge for Lancaster residents who call them at (661) 948-4688. On April 5, the public can watch junk cars get crushed at Pearsons' wrecking yard A wrecking yard, auto salvage yard or breakers yard, (sometimes also known as a junkyard), is the location of an auto dismantling business where wrecked or decommissioned vehicles (most commonly automobiles, but junkyards for motorcycles, bicycles, small  at 361 E. Ave. L-12.

The April 12 tire collection takes place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at four locations: 17341 E. Ave. J in Lake Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850. , 4859 W. Ave L-12 in Quartz Hill, 8505 E. Ave. T in Littlerock, and at 10th Street West and Avenue K in Lancaster.

Tires also will be collected from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 21 to 25 at the Palmdale Maintenance Yard, 39110 3rd St. E.

The April 19 household hazardous waste collection will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the parking lot at 43422 10th St. West, south of Avenue K, in Lancaster, and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Vista San Gabriel San Gabriel (săn gā`brēəl), city (1990 pop. 37,120), Los Angeles co., SW Calif.; inc. 1913.
