Torsney said that high school-age youth were asked to participate in the program to show the community that a very small percentage of the kids in any given high school are getting into trouble with gangs and graffiti. ``Of the 3,000 or so kids that make up a student body, only about 30 are actually getting into trouble,'' he said. ``Just because some kids do bad things doesn't make the whole school bad. These guys are out here working as a team, and they're having a great time doing it.'' These guys are out there working, and they're having a good time. In that respect, the program's a success.'' Sign-up for the event began at 7:30 a.m., and by 8 a.m. volunteers were heading out to their designated areas. After six hours of working in upper 90-degree temperatures, participants were treated to a tri-tip barbecue, although most said they were too exhausted to eat. ``It's important to get these kids involved,'' said Torsney. ``They see what they can do, and they have a great time - tiring, but a great time. It makes them appreciate what goes into the cleanup. That's what makes the program work.''
