The Sunday morning Communion service was a joint service with St Augustine's Church, Scissett. Celebrant was the Rev Joy Cousans, assisted by Sean Fisher. The New Testament reading was by Jean Newby and the Gospel reading by Wynn Leake. Sidespersons were Kath and Brendan McDaid, and the offertory was taken up by Marjorie Brown and Margaret and Kenneth Morris. Organist was Gillian Hamer. After the service, members and friends of All Saints enjoyed a walk to Bretton Park, then up to High Hoyland where they had lunch at the Cherry Tree Inn. For the June meeting of Clayton West WI members met at the Kirklees Light Railway The Kirklees Light Railway is a 4 mile long 15 in (381 mm) gauge minimum gauge railway at Kirklees, West Yorkshire. It runs along part of the trackbed of the branch line from Clayton West Junction . The evening was spent making hanging baskets to hang around the station. This was followed by refreshments in the cafe. Thanks were expressed to the railway staff for all their help and guidance in making the evening so enjoyable. The 7th Huddersfield Clayton West Scout group had a busy weekend, starting with a Hoe Down on Saturday evening. The main attraction was a rodeo bull ride which proved to be very popular. There was a barbecue and music was provided by the country and western group Gunsmoke. On Sunday, the annual gala took place, when fine weather brought lots of visitors who enjoyed the many attractions such as, tombola, hook a duck, bottles on strings and also a raffle with many prizes. Activities included archery, shooting, zip wire and a monkey bridge. Refreshments included hot dogs, burgers, chilli and nachos, tea, coffee, juice and cakes. The scout group thanks all who supported this enjoyable event. |
