``When you look at it, Ds and Fs are only 3 or 4 percent. That's very good news. If you ask a politician, would they settle for this rating?'' said Bob Rice, assistant superintendent Assistant Superintendent, or Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), was a rank used by police forces in the British Empire. The poll, conducted by San Diego-based Competitive Edge Research & Communication, asked voters to assign letter grades to the board, administration, teachers, school buildings, and the overall job the district is doing.

Voters were asked, given what they know about the district, how would they rate each category.

The poll indicated that 10 to 35 percent of voters said they were unsure how they felt toward the district and its staff and facilities.

District consultants said the grades were slightly above the state average for school districts.

(Of the people who gave letter grades) almost 80 percent of the people gives the district an A, B, or C,'' said Khushroo Gheyara, an associate vice president with Caldwell Caldwell, city (1990 pop. 18,400), seat of Canyon co., SW Idaho, on the Boise River; inc. 1890. Gheyara did say the percentage of voters responding ``unsure'' was slightly higher than what he has seen before.

Voters were asked about their attitudes because it would give the district a sense of whether to proceed with a bond measure. If the level of trust among voters is low, they are not likely to give the district their money, officials said.

``The reason for that is if the public perception is that the school district is not doing a good job, at that point it does not makes sense to do a bond measure,'' Gheyara said.

``If you don't have that initial trust and approval in a general sense, they are not going to vote for anything. You have to find that out. It was good news to us,'' Rice said.

Superintendent Nancy Smith said the district will take a closer look at what people are unhappy about.

``My guess is the three-track, year-round schedule that accounts for negativity,'' Smith said.
