On Friday, March 16, an evening devoted to the project will be held at the hall which will also include an opportunity for people to find out more about the organ with a public talk - starting at 6pm. Builder of the Symphony Hall organ Philipp Klais and Birmingham's city organist Thomas Trotter Thomas Trotter is a British virtuoso organist. As of 2006 he is the Birmingham City Organist and organist at St. Margaret's Church, Westminster and visiting Professor of Organ at the Royal College of Music, London. will be inviting everyone to Get Yourself Organised with a free public talk to bring everyone up to date with the progress on the construction of the organ so far. Illustrated with slides to give a tour of the organ workshop, Philipp and Thomas will talk about their collaboration on this fascinating project and explain how the organ is being built. Performing both solos and duets, the two performers will give just a flavour of what the Symphony Hall can expect when the real thing is installed later this year. Work has already commenced on the installation of the organ, the largest wooden pipes arrived by narrow boat last summer and have been positioned at the back of the organ case. In March, the finished organ will be provisionally assembled in the Klais workshop before being dismantled and packed for shipping. The final stage of installation will take place over a 12-week period from mid-June during which each of the organ's 6000 pipes will be tuned by hand. Included in the concert - which starts at 7.30pm - is music by Haydn, Stravinsky, Grieg and Mozart. The orchestra will be conducted by the Nuneaton-based musician Norman Owen.
