Which ones will eventually make it to the Show? That's part of the fun of watching minor-league athletes in any sport - the guessing and the chance to see games on the rise.

Pam Kometani, fourth at Antelope Valley last year, is one of seven former Players West golfers to earn LPGA tour cards for this year.

Ex-Notre Dame High School star Heidi Voorhees is another Players West alumna to qualify for LPGA events this season.

The California-based Players West, which conducts tournaments in this state, Arizona and Oregon, and the Forida-based Futures Tour The FUTURES Tour, known for sponsorship reasons as the Duramed FUTURES Tour, is the developmental tour in women's professional golf in the United States and is part of the LPGA.  are the two primary training grounds for the LPGA.

The nine-year-old Players West, open to women professionals and low-handicap amateurs, will conduct 24 three-day tournaments this year, all on a Monday-Wednesday format. The stop at Antelope Valley is the third of the tour and one of 19 events scheduled in California.

Upcoming tournaments are slated for Rolling Hills Rolling hills are like a mountain chain, only a "hill chain" of hills that roll on and on continually. Team play underway: The Southern California Southern California, also colloquially known as SoCal, is the southern portion of the U.S. state of California. Centered on the cities of Los Angeles and San Diego, Southern California is home to nearly 24 million people and is the nation's second most populated region,  Golf Association team-play tournament begins today, with 56 teams entered in a two-phase, single-elimination competition that concludes May 3 at SCGA SCGA Southern California Golf Association

 Members Club in Murietta.

North Ranch and Braemar represent the area in the Thursday phase of the five-week competition, while Calabasas, Porter Valley and Westlake Village compete in the Saturday phase.

Half of each club's 16-player team will be at home and half away in each round, with every golfer playing in an individual match worth two points and also with a partner in a four-ball match worth two points. Combined home and away scores determine the team winner.

Team play is one of the oldest programs in the SCGA, dating back to 1900, when four clubs participated. Today, more than 6,000 golfers participate annually.

Smaller team play: Paul Holtby of Braemar and Roger Gunn of Lake Lindero combined to win the Southern California PGA (1) (Professional Graphics Adapter) An early IBM PC display standard for 3D processing with 640x480x256 resolution. It was not widely used.

TaylorMade Triple Play Championship on Monday at Moreno Valley Ranch GC, finishing 14 strokes under par with a 28-24-32 - 94 in a competition combining scramble, alternate shot and best-ball formats.

Notes: Arnold Palmer's remarkable comeback from cancer (he had prostate surgery Jan. 15) includes a round of 70 at his Bay Hill course, which will host this week's Bay Hill Invitational. . . . Laura Davies, who set five records in winning last year's JC Penny/LPGA Skins Game, will defend her title against Dottie Pepper, Annika Sorenstam and Karrie Webb, May 24-25 at Stonebriar CC in Frisco, Texas. The four will be playing for $540,000 in the ABC-televised event.

Tiger watch: British Open officials, attempting to capitalize on Tiger Woods' ability to draw youngsters to golf, announced this week that spectators under 18 will be admitted free to this year's tournament, scheduled for July 17-20 at Royal Troon in Scotland.

``Hopefully, this will stimulate interest among young people, and, hopefully, it is something we will be able to continue in future years,'' tournament committee chairman Peter Greenhough told the Associated Press on Tuesday.

It could be a costly experiment, since last year's British Open at Royal Lytham attracted nearly 10,000 fans under 18, with tickets priced at $9.60.

Then again, early stimulation has paid off handsomely in the past in Britain. Six-time major winner Nick Faldo, one of the greatest golfers England has produced, became interested in golf as a lad watching the game on the telly.

``We are now taking a positive step to encourage youngsters to watch the best players in the world,'' Greenhough said.

Few players encourage youngsters the way Woods does to watch the game. The 21-year-old former Southern California junior sensation, who won three of his first nine PGA Tour events, has drawn huge galleries everywhere he has played.
