CLASSES TO HELP PARENTS, KIDS LIFT FAMILY SKILLS TOPICSINCLUDING DIVORCE COPING, ENLIGHTENED DISCIPLINE.

PALMDALE Palmdale, city (1990 pop. 68,842), Los Angeles co., S Calif., in the irrigated Antelope Valley; a growing residential suburb of Los Angeles near Little Rock Creek where it forms Lake Palmdale Reservoir, inc. 1962.  - A half-dozen parenting courses, sponsored by the city's Families in Action program, get under way this month and run through the fall.

The classes ``Strengthening Stepfamilies'' and ``Cooperative Parenting and Divorce'' both start Aug. 29.

``Strengthening Stepfamilies,'' which will run 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesdays, tackles the trauma and opportunities of reshaping families through divorce and remarriage Re`mar´riage

``Cooperative Parenting and Divorce'' is designed to assist divorcing or divorced parents in reducing parental conflict and risk factors associated with the child's post-divorce adjustment. The program also provides parents with information how to rebuild their lives as individuals, foster sensitivity to their children's needs and focus on child-rearing issues rather than past marital Pertaining to the relationship of Husband and Wife; having to do with marriage.

The course runs 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesdays.

A class titled ``1, 2, 3, 4 Parents!'' is geared for parents of children ages 1-4. It teaches basic parenting skills, along with nonviolent discipline skills, problem-prevention techniques, encouragement skills, the importance of a child's self-esteem self-esteem

``1, 2, 3, 4 Parents!'' will run 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesdays beginning Sept. 4.

``Love and Logic'' classes will be held 9 to 11 a.m. Saturdays beginning Sept. 8 and offer an approach to discipline that places the adult in control while at the same time placing the child in a thinking mode.

The ``Strong-Willed'' course presents practical, no-nonsense solutions to the serious problems parents face raising children.

The ``Teen Guide'' teaches youths to analyze the choices they make, think about why they make those choices and learn tips and strategies to make their lives better and happier. Teens registered in this class must have parents registered in the adult class.

``Strong Willed or Out-of-Control Children'' runs 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Mondays beginning Sept. 10.

``A Teen Guide'' will begin Oct. 1, and will be held 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Mondays.
