The $4.2 million woman begins her long-awaited memoir, ``Without a Doubt,'' with her trademark air of confidence. After winning 19 homicide cases before Simpson popped up in the docket surrounded by a chorus line of high-priced defense attorneys, Clark was certain of her ability to sway a downtown jury: ``I felt The Force was with me, if you know what I mean.'' The Force, as it turned out, was vacationing in the Greek islands. Here are some quick quotes from Clark's book. Simpson: ``virtually unconvictable . . . a homicidal hom·i·cid·al adj. 1. Of or relating to homicide. 2. Capable of or conducive to homicide: a homicidal rage. narcissist nar·cis·sism also nar·cism n. 1. Excessive love or admiration of oneself. See Synonyms at conceit. 2. Was she dating Chris Darden?: ``The question is irrelevant . . . Chris Darden and I were closer than lovers. And unless you've been through what we went through, you can't possibly know what that means.'' Johnnie Cochran Jr.: ``a testy tes·ty adj. tes·ti·er, tes·ti·est Irritated, impatient, or exasperated; peevish: a testy cab driver; a testy refusal to help. weasel weasel, name for certain small, lithe, carnivorous mammals of the family Mustelidae (weasel family). Race: ``Looking back on it, I think I'd have to say that blacks of both sexes were moved to breathtaking feats of denial in order to keep the Juice from going down. . . . We lost because American justice is distorted by race . . . by celebrity.'' The glove demonstration: ``I looked down at the bloody, weathered leather, and I said to myself, `That's it. We just lost the case.' '' The Future: ``As I saw it, the Simpson trial had ruined me as a prosecutor. . . . This book came to my rescue. When I received my contract - bearing a figure I could never have imagined in my wildest dreams - I breathed a sigh of relief.'' CAPTION(S): Photo Photo: no caption (Book cover - WITHOUT A DOUBT) |
