CITYWATCH : CITY WILL OFFER FREE INFLUENZA SHOTS.


VALENCIA - Free flu shots will be offered from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. today in City Council Chambers in the first floor of Santa Clarita Santa Clarita, city (1990 pop. 110,642), Los Angeles co., S Calif., suburb 30 mi (48 km) NW of downtown Los Angeles, on the Santa Clara River; inc. 1987. Situated in the Santa Clara valley and nearby canyons, Santa Clarita includes the former towns of Canyon Country,  City Hall, 23920 Valencia Blvd.

The Flu Shot Clinic is sponsored by Santa Clarita's Employee Fit for Life Wellness Committee, Greater Valley Medical Center and Healthnet. Nurses from the medical center will administer flu shots. Healthnet will provide the vaccine.

Flu season is a term used to describe the regular outbreak in flu cases during the cold half of the year. Flu activity can sometimes be predicted and even tracked geographically.

Flu shots will be offered to those over 12 years old. Information is available by calling Cusick at 255-4370.

Motorists can expect smoother traffic flow along Lyons Avenue from Wiley Canyon Road to Newhall Avenue. The city's traffic engineering staff has modified signals at three intersections along Lyons at Orchard Village Road, Newhall and Wiley.

As part of the procedure, additional left-turn lanes were added at Lyons and Orchard and Lyons and Newhall. A protected left-turn phase of the signal was added at the three intersections.

The city will hold a meeting at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 13 in City Hall Council Chambers to give residents an opportunity to meet with representatives from both local cable companies.

The City Council requested the meeting to create a public forum to discuss local cable service.

``We get some calls here at City Hall regarding cable issues, and we want the public to know that the city does not provide cable service,'' Mayor Carl Boyer said. ``It is provided by two local cable companies, Time Warner and Continental Cablevision.''

The meeting will be moderated by former Councilman George Pederson, who will oversee a question-and-answer session. The meeting will air at a later date on Channel 20, public access television.

Residents have until 5 p.m. Nov. 29 to obtain audio tape recordings of City Council meetings from Feb. 11, 1988, through Dec. 22, 1988, records that will be destroyed.

It is standard practice to purge old records the city no longer needs, City Clerk In the United States, a City Clerk is an elected or appointed official who is responsible as the official keeper of the municipal records.
