CITYFOREST TO REOPEN POPE & TALBOT MILL IN LADYSMITH

MINNEAPOLIS, March 24 /PRNewswire/ -- CityForest Corporation announced today that it has reached an agreement to purchase the Pope & Talbot tissue mill in Ladysmith, Wis. In August 1992 the mill was shut down by Pope & Talbot when it consolidated its Midwest tissue operations into its Eau Claire, Wis., facility.
CityForest plans to reopen the mill and begin production of tissue early this summer. The site will then be converted to the production of deinked market pulp as well as tissue.
The CityForest mill will initially employ approximately 50 people. Once the deinking operation is in place, employment is expected to reach 75 people.
Tissue production is planned at 24,000 tons each year for the first two years. Commitments for a substantial portion of the mill's output have already been secured.
"We are very excited about reopening the Ladysmith mill," said Wayne Gullstad, president of CityForest Corporation. "Pope & Talbot has been extremely helpful in providing valuable information and resources to assist our efforts to reopen the mill as quickly as possible."
CityForest Corporation was formed two years ago to establish a high- grade deinking facility to serve printing and writing paper manufacturers in the Upper Midwest. In addition to Gullstad, CityForest founders include G. Web Ross, former CEO of Publishers Paper, and William Hart, former CEO of Independent Paper Stock.
Terms of the agreement were not disclosed. CityForest Corporation is based in Minneapolis.
