CITY WEIGHS INSTALLING 2 NEW TRAFFIC SIGNALS.

Byline: Terry Kanakri Daily News Staff Writer

The city may spend $220,000 to install traffic signals at two busy intersections, including one near the new Boys & Girls Club Girls Club is a 2002 American television series created by David E. City traffic engineers are recommending that the City Council approve the installation of traffic signals at the intersection of Erringer Road and Arcane ar·cane

``The objective is to improve the safety at intersections so you don't have accidents,'' said Bill Golubics, a city traffic engineer. ``We're trying to give the public a safer street system.''

The city performed traffic studies at 10 intersections, and determined that two of them needed signals, based on traffic volume, accident history and pedestrian A pedestrian is a person travelling on foot, whether walking or running. The proposed signal at Alamo and Lemon is especially important because of the newly constructed 25,000-square-foot Boys & Girls Club building at 2850 Lemon Drive near Rancho ran·cho

``People have been worried that the Boys & Girls Club will attract more pedestrians, and certainly more traffic,'' Golubics said. ``The public is concerned that perhaps more children would be crossing Alamo Street to go to the club, and a signal would result in a safer crossing.''

Club Executive Director Linda White '''Linda Marie[1] White''' was Alpha Kappa Alpha's twenty-sixth International President, who served from 2002 to 2006. She was born in Cleveland, Ohio. ``Putting a signal at Alamo and Lemon would definitely make access easier for kids crossing a busy street, so we'd be very much in favor of that,'' she said.

Traffic studies show that approximately 18,000 vehicles pass through the Alamo/Lemon intersection each day, and 12,000 vehicles pass through the Erringer/Arcane intersection, Golubics said.

From 1993 to 1995, police records show, eight traffic collision occurred at the Erringer/Arcane intersection that could have been avoided with traffic signal control.

At the Alamo/Lemon intersection, four collisions occurred.

If approved, funding for the signals would come from developer fees and the city's General Fund, Golubics said.
