CITY VOLLEYBALL PAIRINGS: POLY, SYLMAR HIGH SEEDS.

For years, Poly and Sylmar high schools Sylmar High School is a public school in the northeast San Fernando Valley in the Sylmar district of Los Angeles, California. Established in the 1950s, it is part of the Los Angeles Unified School District, District 2, and serves more than 3,600 students in grades 9-12.  have been among the most successful girls' volleyball volleyball, outdoor or indoor ball and net game played on a level court. An upright net, 3 ft (or 1 m) high, the top of which stands 8 ft (2.43 m) from the ground for men, 7 ft 4 1/8 in (2.  programs in the City 3-A division.

On Thursday night, the two schools - with the last three City 3-A titles between them - joined the upper division and earned the No. 2 and No. 3 seeds for the City playoffs. Both will open at home in Monday's 7 p.m. first round. ``It's a step to the next level and our kids - I hope they're up to the challenge,'' Poly coach Jimmy Ikeda said. ``We did extremely well in tournaments. Hopefully, that will help us against the tougher teams.''

The high seeding was expected, since Poly and Sylmar (both 12-1 overall) have fared well against traditional 4-A schools. Poly also won the Sylmar tournament last month and finished second in the Chatsworth tournament earlier in the season. Their only losses are to each other.

This is the first year all schools were eligible for the 4-A (now called City) bracket.

The seeding committee, composed of coaches from all conferences, decided Poly and Sylmar were in a stronger conference than Franklin and Garfield, both of which finished undefeated. Garfield is seeded fifth and Franklin 13th in the 16-team tournament. The final is Nov. 20 at Occidental College History

Also earning spots were Van Nuys and Monroe. Van Nuys has tried for several years to gain entry into the upper division. The Wolves earned the eighth seed and will host Granada Hills in the first round. Monroe received the No. 16 seed and a trip to top-seeded Palisades Palisades, cliffs along the west bank of the Hudson River, NE N.J. and SE N.Y., extending from N of Jersey City, N.J., to the vicinity of Piermont, N.Y., with a general altitude of from 350 ft to 550 ft (107–168 m). .

Other local teams were Chatsworth (No. 7) and El Camino Real (No. 14).

Several previous 3-A teams made the upper bracket; several former 4-A schools dropped, including Taft and Cleveland. Taft earned the second seed in the division tournament and Cleveland was seeded 12th.

North Hollywood (fifth), Eagle Rock (sixth), Reseda (ninth), and Canoga Park (13th) also got in.
