CAPITAL DRAWS

How do you say, 'let's go' in Arabic? 'Yalla, yalla,' that's how. But to name an eatery with those words? It works, the idea being a place for a quick bite. At Yalla, Yalla (Green's Court, Soho; 020 7287 7663) there's more at work than mere speed and convenience. Faves include the fatoush, babaganoush, pita bread, kibbeh and lamb chops. For the sweet toothed there's the cloying baklava.

Not just Indian, but South Indian is the new rage in London. At the latest offering, Rasa Mudra mudra

With a name like Oceana (1221 Sixth Avenue and 49th; 212 759 5941) there's not much imagination required to figure out the restaurant's speciality. The famous seafood restaurant made waves, and then some more, in its earlier location. So much so that it needed to expand and moved here with a whole lot of new options, including an a la carte menu and a raw bar option, which were missing in the previous avatar.

outlets in Tokyo have evolved and taken on a life of their own. Just how much is evident from Fuga (2-13-2 Asagaya-Kita, Suginami-ku), a chic eatery. There's even jazz on the music system, which should indicate Fuga's aspirations towards classiness. Better still are the various versions of tantanmen, the famous spicy Japanese noodle dish in addition to the usual Japanese staples.

Some things have a life of their own. Like the musical Chicago, which was also a successful movie with a star cast like the Milky Way. This popular Broadway show, based on the book by Bob Fosse, comes to Tokyo in October and runs through the month at the Akasaka Act Theatre (5-3-6 Akasaka, Minato-ku; 3 5561 0909).

In Tokyo's elegant Ebisu area, being a mere cafe is just not enough. But the latest entrant on the block, Time Out Cafe & Diner (Liquid Room 2F, Higashi 3-16-6, Shibuya-ku; 3 5774 0440) has no such qualms of being ordinary. Instead, it is a bubbling cauldron of cultural activity, effortlessly combining music, art, fashion, a global library and rest of the cultural gamut while simultaneously dishing out the choicest of beverages, including alcoholic, and a whole range of food from its open kitchen.

Japanese royalty has caught and held the imagination of the public for centuries. Some of what makes for that fascination will be on display at the Tokyo National Museum (Ueno Park, Taito-ku; 3 3822 1111) from the first week of October. To be held in two parts, the special exhibition will include objects owned by the imperial household as well as treasures from the Shosoin Repository and The Museum of the Imperial Collections. Part 1 will be on view October 6-November 3, and Part 2 will be on view November 12-29.
