Carrying the torch for Los Angeles' bid to host the 2012 Summer Olympics, civic leaders and officials unveiled their 600-page plan Tuesday.

``Los Angeles is truly the capital city of the world. We have the most beautiful people in the world, called Angelenos, and we will put on a spectacular 2012 Olympics.''

The bid is based on private financing, and revenues are projected at $2 billion, with $1.9 billion in expenses.

Los Angeles Bid Committee members said they adopted a resolution Tuesday to approve the bid proposal and send it to the U.S. Olympic Committee for consideration.

``I would characterize what we have as an extremely strong bid,'' said John Argue, chairman of the Los Angeles 2012 Bid Committee.

Committee members said Los Angeles has a good chance because it has experience and little construction would be needed.

Most of the Olympics venues are ready to go in Los Angeles, including Staples Center for gymnastics and the Arrowhead Pond in Anaheim for basketball.

A few sites would need renovation costing about $100 million, including the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum For board track racing circuit, see .

David Simon, president of the committee, said Los Angeles has bid on the Olympics 11 times before, making a bid every chance the city got after 1934 until 1984.

``This bid is big number 12,'' Simon said. ``After a hiatus since 1987 when the 11th bid was submitted, this is the longest span of time Los Angeles has gone without bidding for the Olympics since 1920.''
