CITY TRYING TO LURE HOTEL, COMPLEX.

PALMDALE - City officials are cooperating with a development firm to attract a hotel and retail complex to 13.4 acres across from the Destination O-8 shopping center shopping center, a concentration of retail, service, and entertainment enterprises designed to serve the surrounding region. The modern shopping center differs from its antecedents—bazaars and marketplaces—in that the shops are usually amalgamated into .

The goal is a master-planned hotel, office and retail complex that will serve as a gateway project into the city's 10th Street West retail corridor, said city Mayor Jim Ledford.

``You want a cohesive, high-value development at that location,'' Ledford said. ``You don't want hodgepodge.''

 Partners will be reimbursed up to $800,000 for utility line relocation and other improvements around the triangular parcel at Avenue O-8 and 10th Street West.

The company must acquire two parcels totaling 6.83 acres for the project. The city's redevelopment agency will assist with the acquisition, but all the costs are to be borne by the developer.

City officials said once the two parcels are acquired, work could begin in 18 months.
