Byline: Bill Schlotter Daily News Staff Writer

To Van Nuys coach Jim Buck, high school tennis is first and foremost a team sport.

used the team concept Friday to win their second City 3-A boys' title in four years, beating Eagle Rock 16-1/2-13 at the Racquet Centre in Studio City.

Palisades Palisades, cliffs along the west bank of the Hudson River, NE N.J. and SE N.Y., extending from N of Jersey City, N.J., to the vicinity of Piermont, N.Y., with a general altitude of from 350 ft to 550 ft (107–168 m).  routed Granada Hills for the second straight year 21-1/2-8 to win its third consecutive 4-A championship.

``They were just too good in doubles,'' said Eagle Rock coach Eric Jacobsen Eric N. Jacobsen (born February 22, 1960, New York, NY) is the Sheldon Emery Professor of Chemistry in the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology at Harvard University. , whose Eagles (15-2) were outscored 10-1/2-3 in doubles play.

Eagle Rock won 10 of 16 singles sets, with top players Andres Diaz and Eugene Rapapa sweeping their Wolves opponents. But singles are worth just one point per victory, where doubles wins count for 1-1/2 points.

And the Wolves (16-1), whose previous 3-A title came in 1994, got greater mileage MILEAGE. A compensation allowed by law to officers, for their trouble and expenses in travelling on public business.

Herman said the victory was redemption for his team after losing to Kennedy in last year's 3-A title match.

Van Nuys' only loss this season was to Granada Hills, which finished runner-up to Palisades for the second straight season.

     despite the disappointment.

The defeat was the first of the season for Granada Hills (13-1).

Yoo, who spent most of the season as the Highlanders' No. 1 singles player, was paired with usual No. 4 singles man Matt Weiss as the No. 3 doubles team because of a knee injury suffered in a pickup basketball game.

The pair picked up three of the Highlanders' eight points with a pair of wins.

``Matt carried me,'' Yoo said. ``I couldn't run.''

Palisades was particularly dominant in singles play, winning 14 of 16 sets. And Yoo was happy to get a chance to contribute in doubles.

``Even with a good knee, they would have swept me probably,'' he said, assessing his singles chances.

Also winning sets for Granada Hills were the doubles team of Dee Murphy and Steve Ishoo, who won twice, and singles players Evan Press and Ashwin Reddy, who won a set each.
