CITY SEEKS RESIDENTS' INPUT ON ROAD SAFETY.

Byline: Lisa Mascaro Daily News Staff Writer

Designing a Borchard Road extension may be partly in the hands of residents, who are being asked to join a committee with traffic engineers to hammer out safety features for the controversial road.

City officials hope the committee will resolve residents' concerns over the debated roadway to the new Dos Vientos planned community Noun 1. planned community - a residential district that is planned for a certain class of residents

At its meeting Tuesday, the City Council will consider forming the committee, to be made up of representative from three traffic engineering firms and one from three residential interests - Concerned Residents for a Safe Borchard Road, Casas de la Senda Homeowners' Association A homeowners' association (abbrev. The city issued a stop-work order this summer to stop grading of the road while concerns were addressed, but a judge ordered the city to allow the work to continue, saying the developer had a right to build the road.

The city and the developer continue a legal battle over how to complete the road - with the city saying the developer is responsible for slowing vehicular speeds to 40 mph through various safety measures safety measures,

While the legal battle continues, the committee will be charged with producing a report that recommends design proposals to safely accommodate traffic - such as with a lower grade or with street improvements that could include stop signs, warning bumps bumps
