CITY SEEKS HOME FOR MUSEUM SIX NEW SITES BEING PROPOSED; STUDIES EXPECTED ON EACH.

With six new sites being proposed as a permanent home for a new Children's Museum Children's museums are institutions that provide exhibits and programs that stimulate informal learning experiences for children. In contrast with traditional museums that typically have a hands-off policy regarding exhibits, children's museums feature interactive exhibits that are , a city official called on Wednesday for developing a coordinated process to analyze the various locations.

Councilman Joel Wachs Joel Wachs served for several terms as Los Angeles City Councilman for the 2nd district. He was first elected by defeating incumbent James B. Potter.

While in office, Wachs chaired the Public Works Committee and vice-chair of the Environmental Quality & Waste Management
 said he believes city staff should work with those from the museum to determine which site can be developed to provide the best facility.

``This is the only museum in the city that is dedicated solely to the kaleidoscope of activities for children which includes interactive exhibits, workshops and art classes,'' he said.

``We are open to any site that can meet our requirements,'' Ring said. ``What we want is a permanent home for the museum.''

In order to enter the Senate he had to resign as Councilman for the 7th District on the Los Angeles City  on Tuesday suggested the city should provide 1.5 acres for it near Hansen Dam.

Other sites under consideration include a downtown site at Alameda and Temple streets, Exposition Park, Orthopedic Hospital and a parcel near Olvera Street.

The museum board has until June to select a site to receive more than $9 million in city funds for planning, design and construction of a new facility.

The money was allocated under Proposition K, the 1996 funding measure approved by city voters.
