The ``real'' season, three ``meat-grinder'' events within a 16-day span, begins today with the start of the Southern Section individual championships. The section is split into six divisions - determined by geography, not enrollment where meets are held simultaneously. The area's top three programs are in separate divisions. Southern Section Div. V dual-meet champion and two-time Marmonte League The Marmonte League is a high school sports league primarily made up of schools from Ventura County. Three-time Golden League champion and perennial area power Highland of Palmdale (12 qualifiers including five league champions) competes in the Central Division at Brea Olinda High of Brea. The competition is a prelude to the March 4-5 state meet at Bakersfield's Centennial Gardens. ``We're getting into the grind,'' Harvard-Westlake of Studio City coach Gary Bairos said. Area wrestlers most familiar with the grind are defending state meet qualifiers Eric Blackwell (Royal), a 154-pounder, and Harvard-Westlake's Kenji Porter (191). In addition to Blackwell (42-4) and Porter (38-4), top area wrestlers include Royal 114-pounder Kevin Dunn (42-3), Highland 147-pounder Steve Frehn (33-2) and 121-pounder Kyle Burnett (36-4), Crespi heavyweight Sione Fua (34-1) and Thousand Oaks Thousand Oaks, residential city (1990 pop. 104,352), Ventura co., S Calif., in a farm area; inc. 1964.
