CITY SECTION WRESTLING PREVIEW: CITY TITLE NO LOCK FOR S.F., ECR.

Byline: Matthew Kredell Staff Writer

Wrestling is expanding in the City Section this season. Well, at least there will seem to be more teams.

For the past six years, either San Fernando San Fernando, city, Argentina

of Woodland Hills has won the City title.

Contenders have been even more limited in the West Valley League, where San Fernando and El Camino Real have played catch with the trophy for at least 17 years.

As this wrestling season nears the end of the nonleague portion, it has become apparent that a new West Valley League and City champion is not only possible but probable.

Even the dynasties themselves admit it.

El Camino and San Fernando have some talent, but the two rivals find themselves rebuilding in the same season. Both teams feature mostly sophomores.

San Fernando, which won the past two City titles, graduated Will German, the Daily News Wrestler of the Year last season.

``He was a guy who would raise everyone else's level just by his presence,'' said Gonzalez, who took over for longtime long·time

Birmingham is led by Gevork Atimizyan, 152 pounds, who is 9-0 and won the Camarillo and San Diego San Diego (săn dēā`gō), city (1990 pop. 1,110,549), seat of San Diego co., S Calif., on San Diego Bay; inc. 1850. ``We have a couple of outstanding individuals and then the rest,'' Birmingham coach Matt McClenahan said. ``Bell and Chatsworth have a bunch of guys A Bunch of Guys (BOGs), or Group of Guys (GOGs) are terms used by counter-terrorism officials to refer to small, self-organizing terrorist cells.[1] BOGs typically have little to no contact with global terrorist groups like al Qaeda, so they independently plan and  who are pretty good. So it will be interesting to see how we all match up.''

--Add Birmingham: The Patriots are without their top wrestler from last year. Andranik Dermenjian, the City's best lower-weight wrestler as a junior, struggled in school before transferring to Birmingham after one year. He was officially a junior, but in his fourth year of school.

Because of the freshman problems, he needed another year to graduate. However, since he already completed eight semesters of high school, he is not allowed to wrestle despite only being on the team for three seasons. He appealed to the City Section but was denied.

--Family matters: Agoura coach Dennis Ritterbush lost his second son to rival Thousand Oaks Thousand Oaks, residential city (1990 pop. 104,352), Ventura co., S Calif., in a farm area; inc. 1964. ``I think they made the right decision to be with their friends,'' Ritterbush said. ``The only negative is that I don't get to see them wrestle a lot.''

--One more warm-up: Most of the top area teams - including Camarillo, Thousand Oaks, Agoura, Birmingham, Chatsworth, El Camino Real and San Fernando - will be at the Tournament of Champions meet at North Torrance High on Friday and Saturday.

The single-elimination individual tournament features many individual state qualifiers from last year and 65 teams. It is one of the final tournaments before league play begins.
