CITY SECTION TITLE GAME HAS A PREDICTABLE ENDING SOFTBALL: ECR, SAN PEDRO, WINNERS OF SECTION'S PAST 20 TITLES, MEET AGAIN.

The two most storied programs in City Section softball softball, variant of baseball played with a larger ball on a smaller field. Invented (1888) in Chicago as an indoor game, it was at various times called indoor baseball, mush ball, playground ball, kitten ball, and, because it was also played by women, ladies'  history.

Kellie Caplan, a Boise State-bound shortstop, is ECR's lone link to the program's last championship team. She also experienced the Conquistadores' 4-0 semifinal loss to San Pedro in 2006, as the Pirates went on to defeat Banning of Wilmington for their 13th title and set the City record with their 14th crown last year with a 1-0 victory over Kennedy of Granada Hills.

Since taking over Neils Ludlow, Lori Chandler has experienced euphoria An interpreted programming language developed in 1993 by Robert Craig at Rapid Deployment Software that is noted for its execution speed, flexibility and simplicity. It can simulate any programming method including object-oriented constructs.  and disappointment against top-seed San Pedro, handing the Pirates their lone loss in the program's past eight finals appearances.

She also called a 3-2, eight-inning loss in 2001 -- when the Conquistadores led 2-1 with two outs in the eighth -- the "most disappointing loss I've ever experienced."

"There's been some good memories and some I'd rather forget," Chandler said. "Like any other year, we just want to get there and win it, whether it's them or anybody else. The fact that they're the ones on top means we have to go through them to put ourselves back on top."

Tony Dobra, who has led the Pirates to 11 titles, couldn't envision a City final playing out any other way.

"When I first met coach Ludlow, I realized that's what I want my program to look like because they were the model for excellence in the City," Dobra said. We've had some great games over the years and I always look forward to playing them. It's kind of fitting that we're seeing them in the final. That's the way it should be."
