Steinberg advanced to his fourth championship match Wednesday afternoon when the Highlanders beat Taft of Woodland Hills 20 1/2-9 at the Balboa Balboa, town (1990 pop. 2,751), Colón prov., in the former Panama Canal Zone, on the Gulf of Panama. Top-seeded El Camino Real crushed Eagle Rock 27 1/2-2 in the other semifinal and beat Granada Hills twice during the regular season, but by just one point both times. ``I really feel like I've got nothing to lose,'' Steinberg said. ``This is why I play tennis, to have a chance to win the title. I think it's all a mental thing.'' Steinberg also realizes that El Camino Real has a formidable lineup, as the Conquistadors showed against fourth-seeded Eagle Rock. First singles Dan Nguyen gave his teammates a bit of scare in the first match of the afternoon when Eagle Rock's T.J. Maarup put himself in position for an upset. But Nguyen held on to win 7-5 and beat his other opponents 6-1, 6-2, 6-0. El Camino Real breezed through doubles play, and Maarup won two of his four matches for the Eagles' only points, which left the Conquistadors rightfully confident. ``This is so sweet, it's absolutely wonderful to be in the finals for the third year in a row,'' coach Marvin Jones Marvin Jones may refer to:

It's always good to see the two best teams square off in the finals.'' Granada Hills finished with a comfortable victory over seventh-seeded Taft, but the Toreadors made it interesting by shifting three of their regular singles players to doubles. Taft figured that since it couldn't match up in singles, it would try to win every doubles match and hope for a couple of upsets in singles. It didn't work, as Granada Hills, led by Nima Roshan with scores of 6-1, 6-0, 6-0, 6-0, swept the 16 singles matches and didn't appreciate Taft's tactics. ``It's kind of cheap to do that,'' Roshan said. ``They had to try something, but if you have to do that to win, and you still can't win, it looks bad. We were a little concerned, but our doubles did an excellent job of holding their own.'' CAPTION(S): photo Photo: El Camino Real's Dan Nguyen, shown here, beat Eagle Rock's T.J.
