CITY SECTION TENNIS: ECR GRABS FIRST TITLE NO. 1 DOUBLES TEAM TOPS GRANADA HILLS.

Byline: Anel Laj Staff Writer

It was a spot most athletes dream of. The pressure was on, and both sides needed their doubles team to win.

On Thursday at the Warner Tennis Center, El Camino Real's No. 1 doubles team of Shaun Flynn and Nick Kogan held off Granada Hills' No. 2 team of Ananya Sreepathi and Mike Edelson 7-5 in the deciding match of the Conquistadores' 17-12 1/2 City Section boys' tennis championship win.

It was the first City Section tennis championship for El Camino Real El Camino Real (Spanish for The Royal Road or The King's Highway) was the name of a series of pre-automobile highways linking the various New World colonies of Spain:

The Highlanders lost to Palisades Palisades, cliffs along the west bank of the Hudson River, NE N.J. and SE N.Y., extending from N of Jersey City, N.J., to the vicinity of Piermont, N.Y., with a general altitude of from 350 ft to 550 ft (107–168 m).  last season.

On paper, the teams were well-matched, with Granada Hills and El Camino Real splitting games in West Valley League play. However, El Camino Real was the better team this time.

Sherman Oaks CES won 10 of 16 singles sets. The only player to sweep in the Invitational bracket was Poly's Marco Ceballos, who gave up only seven games.

After the Granada Hills' No. 3 doubles team of Anand Murthy and Steve Choi beat El Camino Real's Burton Newhan and Eric Muysessian 6-4, it all fell on the shoulders of the Highlanders' No. 2 doubles.

``I've always thought of that moment when you're on center stage and everyone is watching,'' said Edelson. ``Maybe we didn't win the match, but it was an amazing a·maze

In singles, No. 2 Matt Jones and No. 4 Bruce Aiken swept their sets, which included crucial and first-time victories over Granada Hills' top player, Nima Roshan.

``I was waiting for this match and getting pumped up for it,'' said Jones, who lost to Roshan 7-6 (6-3) in a league match during the regular season. ``Me and James (Magsino's) goal was to sweep. But I just feel I match up better with Nima.

``As soon as I got a lead I knew I was gonna win. He tends to get down on himself when that happens. I saw his weakness and just won it from there.''
