CITY SECTION SOCCER ROUNDUP: DRIVE FOR FIVE IN HIGH GEAR.

Byline: Daily News

It was business as usual for four-time defending City Section champion Chatsworth High, which routed Hamilton of Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  11-0 in a girls' soccer Championship Bracket game Friday afternoon at Chatsworth.

The top-seeded Lady Chancellors midfield - consisting of Katie Klain, Lindsey Redlin, Leila Pate and Jenna Fodor - showed excellent ball-control skills and communication and proved to be too strong for the Yankees (10-4).

Klain (two goals and three assists) opened the scoring for Chatsworth in the third minute of the game. Klain received a perfectly placed cross from Pate, turned and fired in a goal to the near post.

Redlin scored off a rebound in front of the net to give the Chancellors a 2-0 lead 20 minutes into the game. Redlin, a freshman, added another goal in the second half.

Fodor, a sophomore, is proving to be just as valuable to this year's team as her sister Jackie (currently attending USC An abbreviation for U.S. Code. ) was to the previous four championship teams. The younger Fodor was clearly a step quicker than the overmatched Yankees defenders, scoring twice and adding three assists.

``We are playing well together,'' said senior Klain. ``This team has a special connection.''

Pate, a returning All-City selection, had a hat trick hat trick

Erica Reisig (leg), Kathy Mose (flu), Sarah Matsuda (back), Karla Soriano (flu) and Claudia Brand (ankle) weren't stopped by those inconveniences and their efforts almost got them a victory.

The two teams battled back and forth until El Camino Real got its eventual game-winner in the second minute of the second half. The goal came on Maytal Shvartz's direct kick from the top of the penalty box.

``I was afraid of that,'' Grant coach Marvin Barsky said as Shvartz was fouled on a strong sliding tackle sliding tackle

El Camino Real was more persistent than Grant inside the penalty box. Grant goalkeeper Simone Knoff had 20 saves, including three in which she found herself face-to-face with a forward. Knoff got a hand on the ball on the scoring shot by Shvartz, but the junior goalie misjudged it and her hand hit the ball too late, sending it into the net.
