CITY SECTION ROUNDUP: RESEDA GETS OT WIN 34-33.

Byline: Daily News

The Reseda High football team couldn't have asked for more from Joseph Looney, who rushed for 169 yards and four touchdowns in the Regents' 35-34 overtime victory Friday at Canoga Park.

But Looney didn't stop there. The 5-foot-11 senior blocked Jesus Navarro's extra-point attempt that would have extended the overtime period Noun 1. overtime period - a period of overtime play to resolve a tie; e.g. basketball

, in which each team was given first-and-goal at the 10-yard line and four downs to score.

The outcome was crucial for both teams' chances for a playoff berth. Reseda is 4-3, 3-1 in the Valley Pac-8 Conference. Canoga Park (2-5, 0-4) lost its fifth consecutive game.

``This was very big,'' Looney said. ``We needed this. We showed people we have heart.''

Reseda appeared to have the game in hand after Looney scored on runs of 71 and 40 yards to give his team a 28-14 third quarter lead.

Canoga Park pulled within 28-21 after a 16-play drive that was capped by Ramon Torres' 3-yard run. The Regents fumbled on the second play of their next possession to set up an eventual 1-yard plunge by Torres to tie the game.

Torres, who finished with three touchdowns, answered a 4-yard scoring run by Looney in overtime with a 1-yard run and Canoga Park trailed 35-34.
