CITY SECTION ROUNDUP: KENNEDY ENDS LOSING SKID.

Host Kennedy of Granada Hills' defense forced four turnovers and scored a touchdown to help end its 16-game losing streak with a 27-13 victory over Reseda in a Valley Mission League game on Friday night.

Trailing 7-0, Kennedy's Enrique Ortega recovered a fumble and returned it 55 yards for a touchdown. Then two plays after Ortega recovered a second fumble, Abel Herrera scored on a 4-yard run to put Kennedy (1-5, 1-0) ahead 14-7.

``There was no quit in these kids,'' Kennedy coach Bob Francola said. ``Everyone showed up to practice every day and did everything possible to make this happen.''

Shawn Perry had 68 yards rushing, including a 1-yard touchdown run, on 17 carries for Reseda (0-6, 0-1). He also scored from 32 yards off teammate Barry Daniels' fumbled lateral to cut the lead to 14-13.

Gabriel Garcia caught nine passes for 122 yards and a touchdown for San Fernando (0-6, 0-1). Matt Nevarez was 13 of 34 for 177 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions. The first score was a 15-yard pass to running back Rafael Reynolds and the second a 17-yarder to Garcia.

--Verdugo Hills 42, Hollywood 0: Ryen Carew rushed for 183 yards and four touchdowns on 10 carries for Verudgo Hills (3-3, 1-0).

Carew, who scored on runs of 18, 31, 6 and 28 yards, has rushed for 1,066 yards this season. Giovanni Rodriguez caught touchdown passes of 14 and 21 yards from Reece Apmadoc.

Hollywood (0-6, 0-1), which lost its 28th game in a row, was shutout for the fourth consecutive game and has been outscored 146-0 during that span.

--Grant 34, Poly 10: The combination of Anthony Dickson and Deshawn Smith led Grant (3-3, 1-0) of Van Nuys to a victory over host Poly of Sun Valley.

Dickson rushed for a game-high 180 yards on 18 carries and scored three first-half touchdowns. The senior scored on runs of 3 and 1 yards to give Grant a 13-0 lead in the first quarter.

Poly (0-4-2, 0-1) cut Grant's lead to 13-7 when Ricky Munoz scored on a 1-yard run early in the second quarter. Munoz set up his own scoring run, hauling a 51-yard pass from Will Cortez. But Dickson answered when he broke loose for a 60-yard touchdown run to give Grant a 20-7 halftime lead.

Smith provided the offense for Grant in the second half, throwing for one score and running for another. He connected with Marquis Powell (three receptions, 37 yards) on an 18-yard touchdown pass on Grant's first possession of the third quarter. The score was set up by a 39-yard Dickson run.

--Franklin 28, Eagle Rock 26: Paul Zuber's 28-yard field goal attempt was blocked with 17 seconds left as host Eagle Rock (1-5, 0-3) lost to its archrival arch·ri·val

Eagle Rock rallied from a 28-12 halftime deficit and came within two points of a tie in the fourth quarter when Jeremy Camacho connected with Markece Peco on an 80-yard scoring pass. But the 2-point conversion attempt failed when Camacho overthrew Jonathan Brown Jonathan Brown may refer to several individuals:

Camacho was 12 of 22 for 288 yards, four touchdowns and two interceptions.
