Grant quarterback Julius Roberts was nearly perfect, completing 10 of 13 passes for 110 yards. He had a 4-yard scoring pass to Hector Bernal (five catches, 47 yards) and also scored on a 15-yard run.

--Sylmar 21, Kennedy 14: Danny Burney returned a kickoff 85 yards for a touchdown and added 122 yards rushing on 18 carries for the Spartans (3-2, 1-0) in a Valley Mission League game at Kennedy High.

Sylmar running back Josh Rivera added two scores on runs of 6 and 7 yards.

Kennedy (0-5, 0-1) opened the scoring when Rodney Jones sprinted 29 yards to give the Cougars a 6-0 first-quarter lead. The conversion attempt was blocked.

Later, Jones added his second score on a 93-yard kickoff return.

Neither team was effective on offense in the second half. Kennedy had only two first downs and neither team scored.

The Cougars had two opportunities to tie the game in the final two minutes but sputtered deep in their own territory both times.

--El Camino Real 32, Cleveland 14: Jazen Anderson carried 34 times for 222 yards and three touchdowns to lead the visiting Conquistadores in a West Valley League opener.

 (4-1, 1-0) dominated the second half after taking an 11-6 halftime lead. The Conquistadores out-gained the Cavaliers 183-101 after the break, running twice as many plays as the Cavaliers (2-3, 0-1).

Anderson was the work horse in the second half, carrying the ball 19 times for 117 yards and all three of his touchdowns.

Cavaliers quarterback Antwine Barfield completed 9 of 19 attempts for 138 yards but was intercepted twice. He also ran for both of Cleveland's touchdowns. Ordedrick Rezish carried 16 times for 85 yards.

--N. Hollywood 35, Verdugo Hills 14: Running back Chris Berroud rushed for 196 yards on 20 carries and scored on touchdown runs of 15 and 69 yards for the Huskies in a Sunset 6 League game at North Hollywood.

Alfredo Patino, Justin Tyler and quarterback Juan Rodriguez also had rushing touchdowns for North Hollywood, which finished with 265 rushing yards.

Verdugo Hills quarterback Michael Tinker completed only 6 of 15 passes for 76 yards. However, running back Gabriel Ramirez had a solid day: 82 yards and a touchdown on 16 carries.
