CITY SECTION ROUNDUP: DICKSON RUNS GRANT TO WIN.


After an offseason of bouncing between high schools in two states, Grant High of Van Nuys running back Anthony Dickson looked right at home in leading the Lancers lanc·er

Dickson, a junior, had 161 yards on 14 carries and scored three touchdowns. He had a slow start, losing 1 yard on his only carry of the first quarter, in which Grant had three yards of total offense.

After playing at Grant last season, Dickson moved to Arizona, returned to the Valley - but in the Birmingham of Lake Balboa Balboa, town (1990 pop. 2,751), Colón prov., in the former Panama Canal Zone, on the Gulf of Panama. The port for Panama City, Balboa was the administrative headquarters of the Panama Canal Zone. It was also the site of a U.S. navy base (closed 1999).  area - before relocating to the Grant district. Last season, he rushed for 1,378 and 19 touchdowns as a sophomore at Grant.

The Lancers (1-0) scored on a 90-yard, six-play drive to open the second half. Grant followed the score with quarterback Dashawn Smith's 2-yard run to put the Lancers up 18-7.

Smith finished 8 of 14 for 112 yards, including a 25-yarder to Matthew Morris Mr Matthew Allan Morris, MP is an Australian politician, elected as a member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly.

Morris has represented Charlestown for the Australian Labor Party since 2003.[1] Notes

 Robert Landrum rushed for 129 yards on 13 carries and scored two touchdowns as the visiting Chancellors won their season opener.

On its first possession, Chatsworth quarterback Sean Brubaker connected with Alain Karatepeyan on a 40-yard scoring pass with 9:07 left in the first quarter. Brubaker was 6 of 12 for 111 yards.

Karatepeyan had 11 solo tackles to lead the Chatsworth defense, which helped force Reseda into committing five turnovers.

Chancellors running back Art Cisneros added touchdown runs of 1 and 5 yards, and Joe Romero returned an interception 40 yards for the final score.

Reseda quarterback Jose Rocha ran for a team-high 69 yards on 17 carries to lead the Regents.

--Eagle Rock 26, Canoga Park 13: The host Eagles overcame a slow start and scored 19 unanswered second-half points in its nonleague victory over the Hunters.

Two of Eagle Rock's three third-quarter touchdowns came from special teams. After Canoga Park tied it 7-7 on a 9-yard touchdown catch by Leon Sheldon, the Eagles' Luis Estrada returned the ensuing en·sue

 Yniguez. Eagle Rock's final score came on a 17-yard touchdown pass from Carlos Celis (8 of 18, 138 yards) to Mario Munoz.

The Eagle Rock defense was led by Ryan Paul, who had three sacks. Canoga Park was held to 31 yards rushing and had three turnovers.

The Eagles led 7-0 with 46 seconds left in the first half when Celis connected with Estrada (3 catches, 78 yards) on a 58-yard scoring play.

 Hill led Fairfax with 162 yards on 22 carries, including touchdown runs of 15 and 8 yards.

The Monroe offense was led by Kevin St. Clair, who rushed for 102 yards on 16 carries. He scored the Vikings' lone touchdown on a 75-yard run in the second quarter.

Rashaad Richards was 3 of 9 for 45 yards. Jason Meza replaced Richards in the fourth quarter and was 1 of 5 for 10 yards.

Revish rushed for 125 yards on 11 carries for the Cavaliers.

Contreras was 5 of 16 for 83 yards, including a 49-yard touchdown pass to receiver Kianush Miaki, his only catch, with 1:49 remaining in the the game.

--North Hollywood 20, Granada Hills 14: Senior tailback Justin Tyler scored the winning touchdown from 3 yards out on fourth down with 56 seconds left as the host Huskies held off the Highlanders.

Tyler ran for 79 yards on 21 carries, and his winning score capped a 19-play, 10:46 drive that was one of only two second-half possessions for North Hollywood.

Granada Hills then drove from its own 19 to the Huskies' 26 but failed on fourth-and-7. The drive took 18 plays and included two fourth-down conversions.

Granada Hills senior running back Joel Fitzgerald carried 12 times for 111 yards and had scoring runs of 5 and 60 yards.

North Hollywood's Juan Rodriguez was 7 of 12 for 70 yards and a touchdown. He added a 1-yard touchdown run and 2-point conversion pass to Jorge Puerto to give the Huskies a seven-point lead at halftime.
