CITY SECTION ROUNDUP: BACKUP QB RALLIES G.H. OVER CLEVELAND.

Backup quarterback Jeff Rodner scored on a 1-yard bootleg with 2:07 to play as visiting Granada Hills (6-2, 2-1) rallied for a 22-21 victory over Cleveland in Valley Mission League game Friday night.

Rodner's run culminated a string of 22 consecutive points in the second half for Granada Hills, which trailed 21-0 at halftime. Granada Hills sealed the victory when Sean Rogers intercepted a pass at his 10-yard line with 14 seconds remaining.

Rodner, a junior who had not attempted a pass this season, was 12 of 23 for 193 yards and two touchdowns. Rodner entered the game when starter Brandon Charls was sidelined with a rib injury.

Cleveland of Reseda (1-6-1, 0-3) led 21-0 in the second quarter behind Or'Dedrick Revish, who rushed for 144 yards and two touchdowns on 13 carries. Revish, who scored on a 65-yard run on the game's first play, had 85 yards and two touchdowns on his first three carries.

But Revish carried only once for 4 yards in the second half after being ejected for slamming the ball to the ground less than two minutes into the third quarter after being tackled for a loss and Cleveland ahead 21-7.

--Birmingham 55, Chatsworth 7: Birmingham senior tailback/defensive back Dennis Keyes rushed for three touchdowns and returned an interception 71 yards for a score as visiting Birmingham of Lake Balboa Balboa, town (1990 pop. 2,751), Colón prov., in the former Panama Canal Zone, on the Gulf of Panama. The port for Panama City, Balboa was the administrative headquarters of the Panama Canal Zone. It was also the site of a U.S. navy base (closed 1999).  (6-2, 3-0) remained undefeated in league play.

On his first carry, Keyes went 26 yards untouched into the end zone to give Birmingham a 7-0 lead with 8:54 left in the first quarter. Keyes finished with a game-high 202 yards on nine carries.

Birmingham quarterback Ryan Lombardo completed 12 of 16 passes for 247 yards and three scores, including a 57-yard touchdown to Bennie Ward.

Chatsworth's (3-5, 1-2) only score came when quarterback Sean Brubaker connected with Robert Landrum on an 8-yard TD pass. Landrum also rushed for 93 yards on 18 carries.

--Canoga Park 62, Hollywood 8: Noe Valencia had 170 all-purpose yards and scored three touchdowns for visiting Canoga Park (3-3, 1-2).

The Poly defense was led by Juvenal Garcia, who recovered two fumbles and had two sacks. Marzett intercepted a pass at the goal line with 10 seconds left in the first half to stop a Verdugo Hills drive.

Reece Apmadoc was 19 of 36 for 181 yards for Verdugo Hills of Tujunga (3-4-1, 2-1). Apmadoc scored Verdugo Hills' touchdown on a 1-yard plunge early in the fourth quarter.

Verdugo Hills drove into Poly territory with less than two minutes left, but Gustavo Soberanis intercepted a pass at the 10-yard line to preserve the victory.

 was 14 of 25 for 188 yards and three touchdowns for visiting Reseda (2-6, 2-1).

Reseda's first score came on a 26-yard pass caught off a tip by Mario Goriscan. The other first-half score came when Reseda's Kurt Thomas Kurt Thomas may refer to:

Van Nuys' only other highlight was a fourth-quarter 86-yard pass to Adam Martinez. Quarterback Jake Ochoa rushed the final 4 yards for the score two plays later.

--Sylmar 41, Monroe 15: Sylmar running back Ryen Carew ran for 163 yards and two touchdowns at home.

Carew scored on second-half runs of 46 and 25 yards for Sylmar (6-2, 3-0). Fullback Andre Dai Gre-Bunce scored on runs of 2, 4 and 2 yards to give Sylmar a 21-7 halftime lead.

Monroe of North Hills (2-5-1, 2-1) was led by running back Henry Gentle, who ran for 188 yards and scored on a 27-yard run in the first half that cut Sylmar's lead to 14-7 with 2:59 remaining.

Sylmar receiver Clarence Simpson scored on a 44-yard pass from Joseph Higgins to give Sylmar its final margin of victory.

Monroe's final score came on a 20-yard run by backup quarterback Jose Meza with 7:29 remaining in the game.

--San Fernando 20, Kennedy 12: Trailing 20-12 with 1:03 left in the game, Kennedy's Josh Mendez had a pass intercepted by Donte Jenkins on San Fernando's side of the field, sealing the visiting Tigers' victory.

San Fernando's Terrance Calloway, who rushed for 209 yards on 24 carries, led a 7 minute, 40-second drive in the fourth quarter, capped by a 1-yard touchdown run by Lorall Allen. The drive gave Kennedy little time to come back.

Allen, starting his first game at quarterback, threw a 44-yard touchdown pass to Jenkins in the second quarter. Allen was later replaced by Matthew Nevarez, who was 1 of 3 for 21 yards.
