The Gardena player exchanged words with some Birmingham players, resulting in a physical confrontation between players from both teams. Although game officials didn't eject anyone from the game, Taft coach Troy Starr said the tape he watched, which was filmed by a Taft scout from behind the Birmingham bench, shows potential rules violations by players from both teams. ``As my coaching staff and I were breaking down tape in preparation for our game, we came across this footage, and I felt it was my responsibility to pass it on to my principal,'' Starr said. ``It's not my intention to get anyone in trouble, or for anyone to have to sit out Friday's game. But at the same time I'm a teacher and a coach, and I have a responsibility to do the right thing. We all need to be accountable.'' Taft beat Birmingham 30-6 in the regular season to win the West Valley League title. However, Taft was heavily favored against Birmingham the previous two years and lost. ``The officials were on top of it,'' Birmingham coach Ed Crosen said. ``It happened on our bench. We did commit a penalty, and (Gardena's) player got up swinging. It was an isolated incident in the game. It pretty much got stopped right when it started. After it was over, we resumed play. There were no further incidents. I think the game officials handled it properly.'' |
