Taft's Paul Pratt intercepted Crenshaw quarterback Bryant Thompson three plays into the next possession, and Taft needed just four more plays to take a 31-12 lead when Tryon scored on a draw from 28 yards out. Crenshaw then drove to the Taft 36 but turned the ball over on downs. The Toreadors then put the game away when Tryon ran for 32 yards on the final play of the third quarter and Dove followed with a 38-yard scoring pass to Noah Smith for a 38-12 lead. The Toreadors needed just nine plays to score their 21 second-half points, and Taft's defense allowed Crenshaw just 34 yards on three third- quarter drives, which helped put the game out of reach at the start of the final period. Crenshaw made the score reasonably close with two touchdown runs by Corey Hudson (19 carries, 154 yard) in the final 10 minutes. ``Coach (Troy) Starr gave us one of his famous halftime speeches, and we were ready to go after that,'' Tryon said. Steve Smith, usually the Toreadors' catalyst on offense, had just one catch for 21 yards and one run for minus-3 in the first half, but Taft found success anyway with a balanced attack. Dove threw an interception on the game's first possession, and Crenshaw drove 57 yards by running on eight of nine plays. Fullback Dary Adway scored from 1 yard out for a 6-0 lead.
