CITY PLANNERS APPROVE FOUR-STORY AUTO ROW GARAGE.

Byline: Heather MacDonald Staff Writer

SANTA CLARITA Santa Clarita, city (1990 pop. 110,642), Los Angeles co., S Calif., suburb 30 mi (48 km) NW of downtown Los Angeles, on the Santa Clara River; inc. 1987. Situated in the Santa Clara valley and nearby canyons, Santa Clarita includes the former towns of Canyon Country,  - The city Planning city planning, process of planning for the improvement of urban centers in order to provide healthy and safe living conditions, efficient transport and communication, adequate public facilities, and aesthetic surroundings.  Commission unanimously approved Frontier Toyota's plans to build a four-story parking garage after the dealership redesigned the structure at the request of city officials.

The commissioners praised the dealership Tuesday for changing the color of the garage to be built on Valencia Auto Row from gray to beige earth tones and reducing the structure's height by 5 feet.

``You did a great job incorporating our suggestions into the design,'' Commissioner Rob Parris said.

The garage, which will have space for 716 new cars, will be one of the tallest buildings in the Town Center area of Valencia and is likely the first of several high-rise garages to be built as the 18 dealerships struggle with the space constraints of Creekside Drive.

Frontier Toyota is building the garage to keep up with the demand from Santa Clarita's growing population and to keep more cars on hand, said company controller Mac Middleton.

``We're landlocked landlocked adj. referring to a parcel of real property which has no access or egress (entry or exit) to a public street and cannot be reached except by crossing another's property.  on Auto Row,'' Middleton said. ``In order to grow, we have to grow up.''

The project will also add 5,000 square feet of showroom space and 970 square feet of office space.

The project is the most recent expansion on Auto Row, as dealers strive to keep local residents from traveling to the San Fernando Valley San Fernando Valley

Auto Row is a significant contributor to the city of Santa Clarita's budget, which is dependent on a share of locally generated sales tax sales tax, levy on the sale of goods or services, generally calculated as a percentage of the selling price, and sometimes called a purchase tax. It is usually collected in the form of an extra charge by the retailer, who remits the tax to the government.  revenue.

In July, the Santa Clarita City Council voted 3-0 to expand the dealership zone east along Valencia Boulevard from Creekside Road, in front of the 3,000-player William S. Hart PONY League The Pennsylvania-Ontario-New York League, also known as the PONY League, was a Class D minor league baseball circuit that played from 1939 through 1956. The forerunner of the modern Class A New York - Penn League, the PONY served as the first professional baseball address of  Baseball and Softball Complex.

Four new dealerships, including Mercedes-Benz, are expected to set up shop, according to city officials.

However, the Center for Biological Diversity The Center for Biological Diversity combines conservation biology with litigation, policy advocacy, and an innovative strategic vision to secure a future for animals and plants hovering on the brink of extinction, for the wilderness they need to survive, and by extension for the , a nationally known environmental watchdog group, has sued Santa Clarita, saying officials did not properly analyze the project's effect on the Santa Clara River Santa Clara River may refer to:

In another action, the Planning Commission unanimously approved plans for a self-storage facility in the new Centre Pointe Business Park in Canyon Country.

The commissioners said the Neighborhood Storage Association's plan for the 72,510-square-foot facility at Golden Triangle Road and Ruether Avenue was well-designed.

``You've done an excellent job of making it look like anything but a self-storage facility,'' said commission Chairman Rick Winsman.

The project approved by the commissioners conforms with a proposed ordinance that seeks to prevent self-storage facilities from locating along the city's main roads and to improve the aesthetics of the businesses.

The City Council delayed passing the ordinance last week after several business owners opposed the plan.

In addition, Parris announced his resignation from the commission, effective Oct. 22.

Parris, appointed in 2000 by Councilman Cameron Smyth, recently moved to an area of Sand Canyon that is outside Santa Clarita city limits. Commissioners must live within the city, and Parris said he did not intend to leave the city.
