CITY PANEL BACKS MEMORIAL IN VALLEY.

The City Council's Arts, Health and Humanities Committee urged the filing of the application as part of the project first proposed by state Sen. Richard Alarcon, D-Van Nuys, when he served on the City Council.

Councilman Alex Padilla Alex Padilla is a politician in California. He was elected as the State Senator for the 20th District of California in November 2006 and was inaugurated in early December. In order to enter the Senate he had to resign as Councilman for the 7th District on the Los Angeles City , who succeeded Alarcon, said he wanted his office also involved in the work with a community advisory panel on where the memorial should be located.

The advisory panel is composed of police and fire representatives as well as members of the Recreation and Parks Department.

The committee was told no permanent site has been selected for the memorial, although aides to Alarcon said they are looking at placing it in the Van Nuys Civic Center.
