CITY OFFICIALS SEEK TO REVOKE LIQUOR LICENSE OF TROUBLED BAR.

Byline: Theresa Moreau Daily News Staff Writer

Drug offenses.

Public intoxication.

Weapons possession.

However, when police finally found a bloody trail leading from the bar to a body dumped in the alley one night - they said enough was enough.

Today, city officials and law enforcement agents hope to revoke Rosita's Billiards' liquor license.

If the doors continue to swing open at the bar, located in Sun Valley at 8202 San Fernando Road San Fernando Road is a major street in the city and county of Los Angeles. It starts off in Castaic as The Old Road, passing through Santa Clarita and the Newhall Pass, where upon its intersection with Sierra Highway near the junction of the Golden State (I-5) and the , customers can continue to play pool. But as far as officials are concerned - the liquor well has dried up.

During the first 18 months, the program was operating only as a pilot in two LAPD divisions - one in the San Fernando Valley. And during that probationary period, officers made 1,650 ABC-related arrests.

Since July 1, when the program became permanent and rolled out citywide, about 1,250 arrests have been made for public drinking and other alcohol-related crimes.

Rosita's Billiards came under pressure in November 1995 when police discovered the bloody body of 32-year-old Jose Rodriguez Rojas, of Sun Valley, in the alley behind the beer joint.

Rojas had been shot five times - in the back and in the back of the head - then dragged from the bar and dumped into the back alley, police said.

``It didn't take a brain surgeon to figure out what had happened,'' said Los Angeles police Detective John Michael Coffey, of the North Hollywood Division, homicide unit.

``The drag marks were there. It was obvious he had been dragged from the bar . . . One of the owners allegedly had ordered some of the bar girls to drag the body out and clean up the bar, under his direction,'' Coffey said.

Because of the killing, the ABC pushed to revoke Rosita's liquor license.
