CITY HONORS '05 FIREFIGHTER OF THE YEAR 15 OTHERS ALSO RECOGNIZED DURING TUESDAY CEREMONY.

Burbank native Robert Lanning, a 24-year veteran of the city's Fire Department, was honored Tuesday as its 2005 Firefighter of the Year.

 at Station 15 on Beachwood Drive, Lanning was chosen for his consistency and excellence, officials said at a ceremony that also honored 15 other Burbank Fire Department personnel.

Lanning said he grew up hanging around fire stations in Burbank, where he and his father played basketball with firefighters.

``What a great group of folks to have the opportunity to work with. I'm just really overcome with respect,'' Fire Chief Tracy Pansini said during the ceremony on the steps of the Burbank Police and Fire Department Headquarters.
