SANTA CLARITA Santa Clarita, city (1990 pop. 110,642), Los Angeles co., S Calif., suburb 30 mi (48 km) NW of downtown Los Angeles, on the Santa Clara River; inc. 1987. Situated in the Santa Clara valley and nearby canyons, Santa Clarita includes the former towns of Canyon Country,  - City Hall will be closed Friday to honor the memory of Ronald Reagan, who died over the weekend and whose body was transported Wednesday to Washington, D.C. The former president, 93, died 10 years after he was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease Alzheimer's disease (ăls`hī'mərz, ôls–), degenerative disease of nerve cells in the cerebral cortex that leads to atrophy of the brain and senile dementia. .

The Santa Clarita City Council voted unanimously Tuesday to shut down offices.

Earlier in the week, City Manager Ken Pulskamp and Councilwoman Laurene Weste joined tens of thousands of mourners at the Ronald Reagan Library in Simi Valley where Reagan lay in repose. His body will be returned there for burial Friday.
