 City Council aide kicked off her campaign Tuesday for a San Fernando Valley San Fernando Valley

Valley, southern California, U.S. Northwest of central Los Angeles, the valley is bounded by the San Gabriel, Santa Susana, and Santa Monica mountains and the Simi Hills.

, said the cleansing ceremony was designed to give her a fresh start in her bid for the 3rd Council District seat being vacated by Councilwoman Laura Chick. Chick must leave the council because of term limits and has announced she is running for controller next year.

``This is a long journey, and I wanted to start out fresh while also remembering the people who have been in City Hall before me,'' Oschin said of the ceremony at City Hall, which is undergoing reconstruction for earthquake repairs.

The ceremony was performed by Mati Waiya, who said he supports Oschin because of her work for Bernson in creating the Chatsworth Natural Preserve. Oschin also received the endorsement of actor-environmentalist Ed Begley Jr. She previously was endorsed by Mayor Richard Riordan Richard J. Riordan (born May 1, 1930) is a Republican politician from California, U.S. who served as the California Secretary of Education from 2003–2005 and as Mayor of Los Angeles from 1993–2001. Riordan ran for Governor of California unsuccessfully in 2002. .

Three other people have announced plans to run in the race: Scott Schreiber, Judith Hirshberg and Morton Diamond.
