The project was initiated by professional photographers Yoti Telio and Gary Choppe, who both were thinking of capturing the valley for an entire year. ``I realized I couldn't be here 364 days out of the year,'' Telio said. So the idea to allow residents to capture one day seemed better. ``We had this vision to capture the essence of what living in Santa Clarita was like,'' Choppe said. Both agreed the photographs produced by children were most surprising because of the quality and creativity of their work. Trey Burghardt, 12, took a self portrait of himself a picture in a side view mirror of a car. Trey took away honorable mention for the effort and his photograph was included in the book. His parents, Paige and Don Burghardt, as well as his brothers all submitted photographs and each one was immortalized in the book. ``It was a creative way to unite Santa Clarita,'' Don Burghardt said. ``It was an opportunity for the city to come together on one topic - photography.'' The book was unveiled as part of the Santa Clarita Valley Photography Association's first Photography Expo. The event featured exhibits by local professional photographers, as well as demonstrations on various photography topics, and awards were handed out throughout the day by judges.
