The cost to the city for the float will be determined during the forming of the upcoming 2006-07 budget. The cost for this year's entry was $210,000, with $150,000 going toward the actual construction of the float and the rest financing such expenses as busing volunteers to the decoration site in Duarte, and providing T-shirts and food. The city's overall cost, however, was reduced by $80,000 from cash donations and $5,000 worth of in-kind contributions from businesses and organizations. At the same meeting, a representative of the Tournament of Roses Association is scheduled to present the city with the Princess Trophy for Palmdale's 2006 entry, ``A Magical Place to Call Home.'' The Princess Trophy goes to the most beautiful float 35 feet or under. In fielding their first parade entry, city officials were looking to generate a positive buzz in the media as well as building community pride. City officials believe they scored big in both areas. In terms of media coverage, there were more than 20 newspaper articles about the float prior to the parade. There was also television coverage from seven Los Angeles-based news stations and coverage from two cable channels. ``In addition to the abundant positive press and publicity provided by the float, the city received an overwhelming response from the community with over 660 community volunteers traveling from Palmdale to Duarte to decorate the city's first-ever Rose Parade float entry,'' said Laura Biery, an administrative analyst who oversaw o·ver·saw v.
