CITY EXAMINES FEES FOR SPORTS COMPLEX.

Byline: Teresa Jimenez Daily News Staff Writer

City parks and recreation administrators are preparing the rules and regulations for the Santa Clarita Santa Clarita, city (1990 pop. 110,642), Los Angeles co., S Calif., suburb 30 mi (48 km) NW of downtown Los Angeles, on the Santa Clara River; inc. 1987. Situated in the Santa Clara valley and nearby canyons, Santa Clarita includes the former towns of Canyon Country,  Sports Complex, which is expected to open in late fall.

One of the first rules will be how much visitors will pay to play.

a staff memo written for the Parks and Recreation Commission, which will meet Thursday night, the sports complex will charge facility users a fee comparable to other cities' fees.

The 22,000-square-foot complex will have two basketball courts, four racquetball racquetball, sport played indoors by two or four players, combining elements of court handball and such racket games as squash racquets. It is played on a standard handball court 40 ft (12.2 m) long, 20 ft (6.  courts, folding bleachers, lockers, showers, offices and a lobby area. The new skate skate, fish: see ray.

Parks staff members have recommended that the fees be higher for the peak, prime-time hours from 6 to 9 a.m. and from 3 to 10 p.m. Monday through Friday, and from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

The gym will be open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday. On Sunday, it will be open from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.

The prices also would be different for adults and for users 18 years old and under.

The difference in fees is designed to encourage people to visit the complex at less popular times, said Tymeri Cuervo, recreation coordinator for the city.

``It's supply and demand,'' Cuervo said. ``We'd like people to come in at off-peak hours to spread out the usage.''

During prime usage times, the city has proposed charging adults $6 and juniors $3 for each hour of racquetball. During other hours, adults would be charged $4 and juniors would be charged $2.

would cost adults $2 and juniors $1.50 each hour during prime time, and $1.50 and $1, respectively, at other times.

Wallyball, played on a racquetball court, is similar to volleyball volleyball, outdoor or indoor ball and net game played on a level court. The prices are comparable to gyms in cities such as Duarte, where juniors or adults pay $5 during prime hours and $3 during nonprime hours.

Cuervo said the city also is considering creating a membership so that visitors would be able to show a card to enter rather than pay each time.

``We're looking at the options, and we're looking at that very seriously,'' Cuervo said. ``It certainly would be convenient.''
