The City Council on Tuesday approved a two-year, $300,000 grant to the Economic Alliance of the San Fernando Valley as part of an overall effort to study the needs of business and to link employers with people seeking work. ``This won't do the entire job, but it certainly helps get us started,'' said David Fleming

The alliance has begun a five-year effort to study the needs of businesses, particularly in the entertainment industry, and find and train workers in the skills best suited for them. ``In effect, we are going to become a huge job placement service,'' Fleming FlemĀ·ing , Sir Alexander 1881-1955. Originally, the study - which has yet to officially begin - was to focus solely on the Valley. However, Fleming said, Burbank and Glendale officials asked that their cities be included in the program. The Daily News has agreed to commit a total of $500,000 during the next five years to assist in the study. |
